Quebec Eastern Townships/ Vermont

Join our bicycle adventure into a destination with unique history, culture and language. Quebec offers you one of the world’s greatest cycling network, with more than 4000km of fascinating bike lanes, paths and trails province wide. We ride through part of the Eastern Townships and will have a taste of its neighbour Vermont. This will be our first tour in Quebec, hope you are part of it.

GETTING THERE AND BACK:
Our trip starts in Montreal and finishes in Quebec City. Most major airlines fly into Montreal -Trudeau Airport (YUL) www.admtl.com . It is situated 25 km from downtown, about a thirty-five minute cab ride in moderate traffic, that time can increase if you arrive in rush hour. In Quebec City, the much smaller Jean Lesage Intl. Airport (YQB) is served by mayor airlines although most traffic comes via Montreal. Our rendezvous day is June 18th at a hotel in Montreal. Tour finishes after breakfast in Quebec City on June 26th. Consider your arrival into Montreal and your departure from Quebec City. For those who choose to return to Montreal on June 26th, we’ll help you with logistics, by taking your bike and luggage back to Montreal. We are not intimate with any airlines or travel agencies, best to check the web or with a travel agent re air flights.

THE RIDING:
The terrain is a mixture of flat and moderate rolling hills with the occasional long climb. We average a casual 80-100 km per day. One day we’ll be riding through Vermont, USA. Most of the riding will be a combination of routes marked by La Route Verte including bicycle paths and roadway. Roads for the most part are in good shape and some bicycle paths sections are surfaced with “stone dust” which road bike tires can take. Most of the riding will be on quiet roads especially those on bicycle paths which are lanes separated from motorized traffic.
You are given a map and road log each day. Bike at whatever speed you like. Odds are there will be someone that likes to bike at your speed. Our van will transport your gear from hotel to hotel; van does not follow up behind riders, but will return to get riders if need be. People are expected to bike the full distance, though if your knees are sore or if your legs need a day of rest, arrangements can be made for a shuttle every day. Given the distances best bring a road bike, though a mountain or hybrid bike with slick tires will work too. Bike rentals are available in Montreal.

MEALS:
7 breakfast’s continental style, 2 lunches and 2 dinners are included in the package. Cyclists are on their own for other meals. Bananas & peanut butter sandwiches will be available for your rides. Keep in mind Quebec’s cuisine is based on French tradition enhanced by the use of quality regional products, 100 varieties of cheese, farmed game, apples, blueberries, maple products, local beers, ciders and wines, fueling for our rides will add to the Québécois experience. Dining late is common in Quebec typically after 8:00pm. Some days we will provide some snacks and beverages late afternoon to tie us over until restaurants open in the evenings.

ACCOMMODATIONS:
We will rest in a variety of hotels, clean and well situated. Most will be very nice, some quite basic. Rooms are booked on a double occupancy basis; if traveling solo, we’ll try to find you a same sex roommate, if this is not possible because hotel pricing we’ll collect 50% of the single supplement fee on the final payment ($150). If a roommate is found we’ll refund you the supplement fee.
Nights from June 18th to 25th are included in the package.
Note, if you are arriving early or staying a few extra days and want us to book you into the same hotel we use, please give us lots of notice to make the reserve for you.

CLIMATE:
Daytime average highs reach between 23C/21C and lows 13C/8C. The region typically receives about 85mm of rain in June, though normal weather patterns are no longer as predictable as they once were, June is probably the nicest time during the summer to visit with humidity far less of an issue and slightly cooler evenings.
